A Window into Summer~

Each year, at this particular point in winter, whilst the wood-fire blazes and jack frost decorates Honey Grove with a thousand frosted masterpieces, I can hardly remember summer. Sometimes, I go down to the bee yard and put my ear right up to the hive, just so that I might hear the life going on inside, the buzz and the hum of my beloved bees. And I must confess, it warms my whole being, like another kind of fire.

It is at this point, roughly 6 weeks before the crocus comes up, that I really begin to miss my winged friends.

And then, a few short days ago, at the apex of my missing, an e-mail arrived from Paul Novy, Videographer and Creative Director at Iceberg Films. In the e-mail he attached a short documentary piece, about bees, which he shot here at Honey Grove this summer. Mark and I sat down to watch it while December’s winds rocked the fir trees outside our door and the evening firelight flickered on the wall.  And what we saw touched us deeply, for Paul had sent us a window into summer, a window which peered into the world of Honey Grove under a much closer sun. Yes, seeing the bees and the gardens through Paul’s lens was more beautiful than either of us could have imagined, especially in the deep of winter. So, this blog post is just a short one, to bring you Paul Novy’s short video about: Holistic Beekeeping at Honey Grove. Thank You Paul, for your heartfelt interest in bees and for sharing your deep love of the natural world through your beautiful work.

Now, time to flip through the seed catalogue, seeking inspirations for next year.

May this find you in the midst of a magical holiday season, doing something you love.
